Ad Bonum Facere ETS Foundation

From the silence of cloisters to the common good

We mark the first anniversary of the Foundation with the launch of this new website.

A chorus of voices,
a single voice.

The Ad Bonum Facere ETS Foundation is a Third Sector organisation established on 11 July 2025, the Solemnity of Saint Benedict, Patron of Europe. Founded at the initiative of the Holy Family Federation of the Capuchin Poor Clares of Italy, it brings together, for the first time, monasteries from different orders — Capuchin Poor Clares, Benedictines and Discalced Carmelites — within a single civil entity, enabling them to serve society with one voice. Under the leadership of Sr Chiara Francesca Lacchini, the Foundation acts as a bridge between contemplative life and concrete social outreach.

A commitment to doing good that begins in the silence of the cloister and reaches out into society.

Our mission: to preserve and to share.

At the heart of the Foundation is the charism of women’s monastic life, which inspires all its work. Its mission is twofold: to preserve and to share. On the one hand, it safeguards a tangible and intangible heritage that dates back to the Middle Ages, so that future generations may continue to know and value it. On the other, it turns this spiritual legacy into practical support: cloistered life is understood not as separation, but as a contemporary expression of solidarity among monasteries, reaching those most in need.

Enclosure does not mean isolation, but rather openness to the common good.

Social outreach born of contemplation.

The Foundation works in Italy and abroad to turn the spiritual legacy of monastic life into tangible support. It promotes and coordinates forms of assistance for individuals, communities and groups affected by illness, vulnerability, marginalisation, suffering, social isolation or poverty, with particular attention to Catholic women’s monastic communities in Italy and throughout the world, many of which face hardship and unrecognised needs in silence.

Ancient roots, modern tools.

The Ad Bonum Facere ETS Foundation is the fruit of three years of listening, study and shared work. Through consultation with legal experts and dialogue with the Dicastery for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, a structure has been created to preserve and promote the identity of monasteries in contemporary society. It marks an important step towards the responsible and supportive stewardship of ecclesiastical assets, allowing the past to help shape the future.

The Founding Monasteries.

The Foundation has its registered office in Fabriano, in the Marche region, at the Monastery of San Bartolomeo. Its living presence, however, extends across Italy through the Holy Family Federation of the Capuchin Poor Clares of Italy and the fifteen monasteries that gave life to this project. This map marks the beginning of a shared journey: a network of communities, from the Marche to Sardinia and from Lombardy to Puglia, united in mutual support.

A generative act of giving back, through the modern tools
of organized solidarity.
